For children with disabilities the scope of educational opportunities can be limited. The scope for recreational activities is even more limited.
Rainbow Clubs provide each and every one of its members with a sense of ‘belonging’ to their own club. They give the children and their families an opportunity to met other families in similar circumstances as themselves, thereby creating a real working network with immeasurable benefits.
Each of the Rainbow Clubs run independently under a parent working committee but collectively under the constitution of Rainbow Club Australia Inc. This gives the parents real control over the club and operating independence for each Rainbow Club. Rainbow Club Australia Inc is, however, the major funding body behind each of its clubs, so that these busy parents do not need to organise fund-raising.
Rainbow Clubs also provide recreational opportunities for the children. We have an annual horse riding day and Swimming Carnival where all the Rainbow Clubs met and the children have the opportunity to compete with their peers together with barbecue and picnic days.
